DEFINITIONS OF THE PROGRAM
Establishment: Department of Social Work was established in 2011.
Degree: Students who successfully fulfill the requirements of the program and graduate are entitled to receive the "Bachelor's Degree Diploma of Department of Social Work".
Level of Degree: Undergraduate
Conditions for Admission and Registration:
Students are admitted to the undergraduate program of the Department of Social Work with the Equal Weight Score type and central placement system, according to the results of the Higher Education Institutions Examination. The training period is four years. The language of education is Turkish. Rules on the Recognition of Prior Learning (formal, in-formal, non-formal):
The recognition of previous formal learning in higher education institutions in Türkiye, vertical, horizontal and university transfers, is carried out within the scope of "Regulation on the Principles of Transfer Between Associate and Undergraduate Programs in Higher Education Institutions, Minor and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer" determined by the Council of Higher Education. An exemption exam is held at the beginning of each academic semester for foreign language courses such as English and German included in the education plans of the programs. All students have the right to take the exams. Students who take and pass the exam are exempt from the relevant courses in the curriculum.
Qualification Conditions and Rules:
Students who successfully complete all of the compulsory lectures and relevant elective lectures in the program, complete 240 ECTS in total and reach a weighted GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 are entitled to successfully graduate from the program.
Program Profile:
The social work program aims to integrate professional knowledge, values and skills of graduates to become professional staff with regulatory, planning, educational and researcher qualifications in rural and urban environments, public sector, private sector and non-governmental organizations for applicant systems at various levels. The curriculum of the program is completed in 4 years (8 academic semesters). Each academic semester consists of 13-16 weeks. Courses are seasonal and have no prerequisites. In each academic semester, at least one midterm exam and final exam are held in accordance with Ondokuz Mayıs University Education and Examination Regulations. Apart from these practices, techniques such as internships, projects, field studies, organization visits, research, presentations and homework are also applied.
Employment Profiles of Graduates (with instances):
Department graduates work as Social Workers/Social Service specialists; and are employed at Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services (central and provincial organization) Ministry of Health (central and provincial organization), Ministry of Justice (central and provincial organization), Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundations, State-University Hospitals and Private Hospitals, Universities Credit and Dormitories Institution, Local Governments, Civil Society, Maternal-Child Health and Family Planning Centers.
Transition to Higher Degree Programs:
Those who successfully complete the social work undergraduate program can do a master's degree and/or doctorate in the same department, as well as other graduate programs in some other fields. Candidates who complete their undergraduate education can continue their education in postgraduate programs, provided that they receive a valid score from the ALES exam, and pass the science exam.
Exams, Assessment and Evaluation:
In the evaluation of theoretical courses, the provisions of Ondokuz Mayıs University Education and Training Exam Regulations are taken as basis. Students are subject to at least one midterm and final exam for each course. The contribution of midterm exams to the success grade is 40%, and the contribution of the final exam is 60%. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. The evaluation of applied vocational courses is determined by the instructor of the course in line with the evaluation criteria developed according to the characteristics of the course (transfer of theoretical knowledge into practice, evaluation of observations and observations, evaluation of student performance in seminars and case presentations and discussions, practical exam, etc.). The application grade is determined out of 100 full points by the instructor and staff who carry out the application.
Requirements for Graduation:
In order to graduate, students must successfully pass all courses in the program. In this program, students are required to complete a minimum of 240 ECTS and have a minimum GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00.

Opportunities:
Currently, there are 3 professor doctors, 3 associate professor doctor, 1 assistant professor doctors, one lecturer are 3 research assistants. When necessary, courses can also be conducted by external assignment of the experts. Education continues by taking advantage of the physical facilities of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Applied studies can be carried out in social work organizations serving within the borders of Samsun province.
